ARC Performance
HydroBoost Hydraulic Brake Assist Booster

The ARC Performance HydroBoost Hydraulic Brake Assist booster could be just what you need to address the spongy brake pedal and underperforming brakes in your classic car or pickup. This system is designed to provide a consistent and comfortable brake pedal feel, which is crucial for both safety and confidence while driving. Installing such a system can often significantly improve the braking performance of older vehicles, ensuring reliable braking and peace of mind.

The HydroBoost Hydraulic Brake Assist Booster is a perfect fit for custom applications, especially those involving engines with large cams that produce low vacuum. Unlike traditional brake boosters that rely on engine vacuum, this system operates independently, making it highly versatile and suitable for a wide range of vehicles where engine vacuum may be limited or inconsistent.

The system consists of a high performance, hydraulic brake assist unit that runs off your power steering pump in conjunction with your power steering box or rack. The unit is mounted in place of your existing booster on the firewall or chassis. The mounting plate mounts through your factory 4 bolt power booster mounting location and attaches to your brake pedal arm. This HydroBoost setup is supplied as a standalone unit that is designed to work in conjunction with any typical 1-1/8" master cylinder.

Our Black Oval 1-1/8" Bore Master Cylinder and Adjustable Proportioning Valve are perfectly suited to work in conjunction with these HydroBoost units. The complete kit is available here.

Overall, this system not only addresses specific challenges like low vacuum from large camshafts but also provides a modern solution that enhances braking performance and reliability in custom vehicle applications.

The ARC Performance HydroBoost Hydraulic Brake Assist Booster is suited to a 4 wheel disc vehicle.

Additional Information:

Power steering pump:The pump will power both the Hydra Stop unit and the power steering box/ rack. Old worn pumps can have problems trying to develop full pressure at idle speed. Old pumps will also have contaminants that will pollute the new brake booster. A clean quality pump is important. The power steering pump will need to flow at least 2 gallons per minute and make at least 1200psi. Slower flow rates will cause the brake assist to be delayed and can cause the loss of steering assist while the brake is applied. The total assist available is dependent on the max pressure from the pump.

Steering box/ rack:An old steering box/rack will have contaminants that will pollute the new Hydra Stop. If old steering box/racks are being used, they should be thoroughly flushed, removing the old fluid and any contaminates.

Master cylinder:

When upgrading to the HydroBoost Hydraulic Brake Assist System, it's crucial to ensure that the master cylinder is in good condition and capable of handling higher line pressures. Here are some important considerations:

  1. Higher Line Pressure:The HydroBoost system enhances brake performance by increasing hydraulic pressure. This places greater demands on the master cylinder to maintain integrity under higher pressures than it may have been designed for in older systems.
  2. Potential Issues with Worn Master Cylinders:A worn master cylinder may not be able to withstand the increased pressures and could develop leaks. These leaks can manifest either externally (visible fluid leakage) or internally (resulting in poor brake performance or pedal feel).
  3. Importance of Quality Master Cylinder:Choosing a high-quality master cylinder that is compatible with the HydroBoost system is crucial. It should be able to handle the increased hydraulic demands without compromising performance or safety.
  4. Regular Maintenance:Regular inspection and maintenance of the master cylinder are essential. This includes checking for leaks, ensuring proper fluid levels, and replacing the cylinder if wear or damage is detected.
  5. System Integration:Proper installation and integration of the master cylinder with the HydroBoost system are key. This ensures that the hydraulic system operates efficiently and reliably.

Power steering filter:

Placing a filter on the inlet side of the HydroBoost Hydraulic Brake Assist System is recommended to protect its internal components, such as seals, valves, and the pump itself. Contaminants like dirt, debris, and particulates can potentially enter the system during operation, which may compromise the longevity and performance of these critical parts over time.
